Your security

NBG recognizes the importance of the security in electronic transactions and has taken all necessary measures, with the most recent and advanced methods, to ensure maximum security within the i-bank Simple Pay service. All information regarding your transactions and your personal details is secure and confidential, as in all NBG services.

The data of credit or debit cards are not stored on the computers and databases of the Bank (in accordance with PCI-DSS international standards).

The security of the data in the i-bank Simple Pay service of NBG also requires that if you sign up for the service you should never divulge your personal password and the answer to the security question (henceforth the credentials) to anyone else.

The customer service of i-bank Simple Pay of NBG will never ask you to reveal your credentials. Any communication (over phone or by email), in which you are asked about your credentials, should be considered suspicious. If you inform anyone else of your email and credentials with the i-bank Simple Pay service of NBG, you will be considered directly responsible for any consequences, including deletion of the user from the databases of the Bank, blocking of all user transactions, access by the third party to your transaction history, change of your personal details etc. If you believe that someone has stolen your credentials you should immediately change them by connecting to the i-bank Simple Pay service, and inform us forthwith by calling us at 18 18 18 from a fixed or mobile phone, if you’re in Greece, or +30 210 48 48 484 if you’re abroad.

Customer Identification

The credentials used to identify you as a registered user are: your e-mail address and your password. The answer to the security question is needed in the event that you do not remember your password. You have to enter your e-mail address and password each time you use the i-bank Simple Pay service of NBG as a registered user.

The i-bank Simple Pay service of NBG allows you to change your password as often as you like. In addition, registration as a user to the i-bank Simple Pay service of NBG is provided free of charge, and enables you to access your transaction history, store transaction templates and get served faster by the agents of the customer service department of i-bank Simple Pay.

If you have chosen to pay by charging an NBG account, the identification of the user - beneficiary of the account will be handled by the i-bank Internet Banking system of NBG, based on the user ID and the password, as well as the i-code. If you have chosen to pay by credit or debit card, the i-bank Simple Pay system of NBG guarantees the security of the transactions by asking the user for additional details (e.g. the three digit security number on the back of the card), to assure the validity of the credit or debit card, and the proper use by its holder.)

MasterCard SecureCode and Verified by VISA certification services

The MasterCard SecureCode and Verified by VISA services are designed to offer additional protection when performing payments through the Internet using a MasterCard or VISA credit card of any issuing bank. To activate these certification services you should already have a PIN code only for payments through Internet that has been given to you by the bank that issued you with your card.

In this case, NBG’s i-bank Simple Pay will ask you to enter this PIN code, so that via the MasterCard SecureCode and Verified by VISA services it will be able to verify your identity during the process of your on-line payment. That way, you not only prove your identity and that you are the rightful owner of the card to the "recipient" of the payment, but also protect your card from malicious use through the Internet by others, as it is only you who knows this PIN code. To include your card in the MasterCard SecureCode and Verified by VISA services you should contact the bank that has issued your card in line with the procedures set up by the bank. If the issuing bank of your card does not participate in the MasterCard SecureCode and Verified by VISA services yet, you can nevertheless continue to carry out your payments via i-bank Simple Pay as before.

Auto Disconnect

For your security, and if there is no activity for fifteen (10) minutes, you are automatically disconnected from the i-bank Simple Pay service of NBG and you will be prompted to re-login to the service.

Controlled Access (firewall)

Access to the Bank's systems (servers) is controlled by a firewall, which allows the use of specific services by the customers / visitors (users / subscribers) prohibiting, at the same time, access to systems and databases with confidential data and information of the Bank.

Account Lock

If you enter the wrong password four (4) consecutive times, for your own security the system will block your access to NBG’s i-bank Simple Pay.
To unlock your account, you must carry out the password reset procedure by entering the answer to the security question. If you’ve forgotten the answer to the security question, you should call the Bank’s Contact Center at 181818 from a fixed or mobile phone, if you’re in Greece, or +30 210 48 48 484 if you’re abroad. One of our agents will verify your identity (as per the details you have registered with i-bank Simple Pay), and then reset the password (a reset e-mail is sent to your registered e-mail address).

Encryption – Assurance of Privacy of Transmitted Data

From the beginning till the end of your on-line session with the i-bank Simple Pay service of NBG, all information and personal data is encrypted using a 128-bit encryption protocol (Secure Sockets Layer - SSL). Encryption is a way of encoding information until it reaches the designated recipient, who will be able to decode it using the appropriate key. Every time you log in to the i-bank Simple Pay service of NBG, any communication between your computer and the systems of the Bank is encrypted using a 128 bits key by Verisign (the global leader in cryptographic keys for banking services).

In other words, each time you send information to the system, your browser encrypts it first using a 128 bits key and then sends it to the system. The system of the Bank first decrypts the information received using the same key (which is determined at the beginning of your session with the service) and then processes it. The Bank's systems send you any information using the same encryption process. Even if you’re not a registered user of the i-bank Simple Pay service of NBG, your transactions are fully secure as they are protected by the same technology.
